1. Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, ZIP code, and profile details, including your bio and avatar image.

When you list items, we collect item details such as titles, descriptions, images, categories, condition, and declared and replacement values.

When you participate in loans, we collect loan terms, activity history, messages exchanged between users, and reviews.

When you make a payment for a platform fee, payments are processed by Stripe. SoBo does not receive or store your credit card number or payment method details. We store transaction records, including the amount, status, and associated loan.

When you enable push notifications, we collect your device’s push notification token, device name, and operating system to deliver notifications.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate the platform, facilitate lending and borrowing between users, and maintain your account.

We use your email address to send required transactional communications, including loan return reminders and account security emails such as password resets and verification codes.

We use your notification preferences to send optional email and push notifications about loan activity, messages, and reviews. You can control these preferences in your Settings.

We use Stripe to process platform fee payments securely.

We use OpenAI to generate friendly notification summaries. Only the notification title (e.g., “Ryan offered to lend Camping Tent”) is sent to OpenAI; no personal contact information, email addresses, or account details are shared.

We use abuse reports to investigate violations and maintain a safe community.

3. Required Communications

Loan return reminder emails are a core feature of SoBo and cannot be opted out of. As a borrower, you will receive email reminders as the return date for a borrowed item approaches and if the item becomes overdue. These reminders are sent at intervals, including 3 days before, 1 day before, the day of, and at escalating intervals after the due date.

Account security emails, such as password resets and verification codes, are also required and cannot be opted out of.

All other notification emails and push notifications are optional. You can manage your preferences at any time in Settings.

4. Sharing Your Information

Your profile information, item listings, and reviews are visible to other users on the platform. Your email address is not shared with other users.

Stripe processes payment data under its own privacy policy when you pay platform fees. SoBo does not have access to your full payment method details.

OpenAI processes the notification summary text. No personally identifiable information, such as email addresses or account credentials, is sent to OpenAI.

Abuse reports are reviewed by SoBo support staff and may include information about the reported user, item, or loan.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share information with service providers who assist in operating the platform, subject to confidentiality obligations.

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

You may access, update, or correct your account information at any time through the app. You may delete your account at any time through the app or by contacting support at support@soboapp.io.

Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal profile information (name, bio, avatar, email, ZIP code). However, loan ledger records, including loan terms, activity history, messages, and reviews, are retained permanently. These records are a core feature of the platform and serve as the binding record of agreements between both parties. Retaining them protects lenders and borrowers alike and ensures accountability for all completed and historical loans.

If you wish to request a copy of your personal data or have questions about the data we hold, please contact us at support@soboapp.io. We will respond to data requests within 45 days.

7. Children’s Privacy

SoBo is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from a user under 18, we will promptly delete that information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of SoBo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
